Spindle berries

At this time of year, the Spindle bushes look amazing. I don't ever seem to notice them the rest of the year, but in Autumn the leaves turn bright red and they are covered in bright pink, four lobed berries. If that's not gaudy enough, as the berries ripen, they burst open to reveal bright orange seeds. Nature is not very subtle when it comes to Spindle, with the pink and orange clashing in a pretty spectacular way!

Apparently the wood used to be used to make the spindles used to spin wool, which is where the name comes from.
