The second Deaths Head Hawk Moth has finally hatched. After spending two days watching it, it hatched and we missed the whole thing. We could tell Wednesday night that it was ready to hatch as the chrysalis had gone thin and crispy and it was wriggling a lot - we just couldn't tell when it would happen. We went to bed and pointed the trail camera at it, but the movement didn't trigger the camera, so we missed it all. I guess you could say a watched chrysalis never hatches!
Anyway, we think this one is a female as she is much bigger than the first. They have been named Bob and Betty by Bug Mad Girl.
The Great Tit with the sore eye has been around again. Now it seems to have lost almost all of the feathers on it's head, but it's left eye does seem to have healed and is open now. Unfortunately both sides of it's head seem to be effected now, not just the left hand side. I still can't tell is it's a baby or adult (but the rest of it's feathers do look quite fluffy, so may be a baby). It has been here with an adult.

Almost all feathers are now missing from it's head, even on the 'good' side |

Originally only the left side was effected. At least it's eye seems to be better |

The adult that has been staying with it - what it should look like! |
I took this photo of a Red Kite out of our sitting room window. The tree was blowing around in the wind and he was hanging on tight.
